I consider myself to be a poet who likes to explore various
forms and styles of poetic expression. However, I must admit that I like metered
poetry but a change in diet is necessary to ward off boredom. My poetic canvas
is wide and deep, LOL. At any given time, I would dip my quill into the structured
and unstructured poetic inkwell, depending of course, on what frame of mind
I am in at that particular time.
Right now, I am in the mood for an Acrostic and Mesostich from the poetic a
la carte. Please join me. The slice I have taken is tagged,Covert
Fusion. The first slice of this poesy cake, forms a word as you bite
the first letters of the first word of each line leaving a metallic taste in
your mouth, by now you would have seen the coded word. The second slice is that
of a Mesostich and it gives off a rhythmic flow with a distinctive beat from
the tongue. This is a achieved from eating the first letters of the middle word
on each line to uncover the coded message. Bon Appetite. As a poetic form, the
Acrostic is as old as the hills. Not only is it used to praise people, cities,
and events but to jab at issues which the public finds unpalatable. It is said
that ancient religious cults used it to identify themselves to each other in
secret. Research has shown that in the middle 19th Century the Acrostic became
a popular tool not only for ushering praise on royalty and conquerors but to
educate children in history and geography. Many different forms of Acrostics
exist but it is purported that Queen Victoria was very fond of the Double Acrostic.
