Poems from Memory - Sylvia Benham
By SYLVIA BENHAM ...... As parf of PoetryVisualized.com's Poetry of the People Series - POP Series for short - I am very pleased to present a warm and wonderful lady, Mrs. SYLVIA BENHAM, mother and grandmother, who just turned 90 this April, 2008. Sylvia is a former teacher, who has lived in many places around the world as a wife of an accomplished scientist. This wonderful lady recalls from memory excerpts from her favorite poems and expresses them with such beauty and eloquence - straight from the heart, without benefit of any rehearsals. What you will see and hear was recorded live, in real time - in a span of just a few minutes inside a small office at the Orange Senior Center which we temporarily "occupied" for our impromptu recording. The door was actually left open (my fault, I should have closed it) so you can hear some background noise and even someone talking on the phone just outside the door. We had already started the recording so rather than stop, I just decided to go for it, background noise and all. The Orange Senior Center is a very busy place with so many goings-on that I couldn't hope to have the insulated quiet of a recording studio, so we just had to make the most of the situation. We only did ONE CUT, and no more. This recording session was done at a little past noon, just after Sylvia has finished attending her twice weekly Arthritis Exercise Class. The only editing I did was to cut out some of my spontaneous remarks of admiration - although you can still hear some of it in the background. So without further ado, here it is . . . excerpts of poems from the memory of SYLVIA BENHAM of Orange County, California. I'll let you figure out the poems and the poets. ENJOY!!!
