A continuation of our "Poetry of the People" (POP) Series featuring the poetry readings of Dr. Frank L. Meyskens, Jr.  In this clip, Dr. Meyskens reads 3 more poems:  "Send and Receive", "Savior" and "Relapse" all of which deal with the emotional reactions of a patient upon learning of his or her medical condition from the attending physician.

His collection of poems published in a book entitled "Aching for Tomorrow" focuses on what really happens to people as they become patients, and the relationship between patient and doctor / caregiver, from the first encounter through ongoing care.

Dr. Meyskens is a practicing Oncologist and Professor of Medicine and Biological Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine, where he is also Associate Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences and Director of the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.  He lives in Irvine, California, with his wife, Linda.
