Swallowing Pride

It’s a food for thought and not
exactly an ego’s just dessert.
They say creme rises to the top
but it has to get there from
the bottom up.

Seasoned just right and sometimes
a little off kilter, it is a diet of champions.
Fattening wisdom and thinning arrogance
it often stews in ones thinking pot.
Making a tempestuous brew.

Takin with a little salt of discontent
it is a pepper that spices flavorful life.
For some it comes easy, for others
it’s an acquired taste.

Swallowing pride tastes a lot like chicken
but a necessary ingredient to humble pie.
And everybody gets a slice from
time to time.
