When Content Was King

Once upon a time in a world not so far away,
in a time approximating now…

Thinking falls to the devils details
and corruption runs rampant.
Secret thoughts become
politically incorrect
and policed.

Registered by idealism
individuals fall by the thousands
to the sheriff of status quo.
Swinging left or right
demeaning tolerance
intolerantly.

There has been a coup…
Content WAS king but dethroned
by decapitated context, blood
spattered word turned emotionally
visual and tied to sound bytes.

Three minutes
convinces a cacophony of soapy minds
and a picture convinces a world of fools.
Arrested thought handcuffed to a bed post
and raped repeatedly by honest lies.

Trick or treat…
It’s the hallow mean of our lives.
Beware the candy, the sweet lies
of truth biased with utopian agenda.
The nature of man will not fit
in a gilded box of good intentions.

Thought police… police thought…
It’s good cop, bad cop switching badges
and allegiances arbitrary to political whim.
Not just the state but brothers and sisters
that are the living dead, zombies in all but name.
