The Envy of Wonderland

Gotta get this out of my system, fight for what’s right.
Lone wolf howl at the pack chasing mechanical rabbits,
I followed Alice down that hole in my youth and never
escaped. But time did help clarify the difference between
reality and dreams. Like hammering a nail and hitting
your thumb, you don’t have to pinch yourself. Be careful
what you wish for, dreams can come true and when
reality slaps you in the face…
Is that really what you wanted?

And since when did it matter, "what you wanted" anyway?
Welcome to Wonderland, the truth is you never entered
another realm, another reality, another world removed
from the every day mundane. You live in it, plain and
simple or dazed and confused. It all depends upon your
perspective, it could be the paranoia of "they" that drives
your mad hatter. Or you could see things through the
smoke of a hookah smoking caterpillar. Maybe even the
clarity of Alice’s common sense holds sway or perhaps
her raving innocence. Either way the most likely
perspective is yours… yours alone.

Mankind shares Wonderland in common, dreams built
upon dreams, nightmares to overcome and Jabberwocky’s
to slay. All that is required of you is to eat, drink, breathe
and choose paths from here to there. Never mind that
you can’t get there from here, it’s your destiny and you
will arrive sooner or later. Being there is of little account,
getting there makes all the difference. But that’s neither
here or there… you’re off to a good start.

The problem with Wonderland is reality, broken pieces
of the looking glass cutting fantasies short of fulfillment.
We are an ambitious lot and dream BIG, we often find
ourselves in Never Never land with the whole house of
cards falling about our heads.

We are also selfish, greedy and worse… envious of others
achievements. Classic cases of selfishness and greed are
for the most part easily overcome by social interaction or
lack thereof. But envy, ahhh now if there ever was a case
to be made for common misery this is it. Forget the
Red Queen or the White Queen, Green is currently King
in Wonderland.

Something for nothing is all the rage at the Kings court,
we’ve underestimated the power of lemmings rushing
for justice under the executioners blade. It’s a horde of
rodents, rats racing democracy and chewing on the fat
of law. Justice with the blindfold torn off and writing
pages upon pages of fantasy, inventing new and
improved Jabberwocky’s to enforce the will of nightmares.
Nothing is free in Wonderland and the Cheshire
Cat is frowning, the bill has come due for all of that
smoke at the caterpillar’s den of iniquity.

Curiouser and curiouser still who will pay… this bill?

"Off with his head!" cry the mechanical rabbits.

"This heretic, this clown of natural man, he would slay
us with reason and logic! But we’re hep to that! Indeed
we are! He’s a follower of surreal voices and denies
children food and care. He say’s that he thinks for
himself but we all know that’s a lie! He refuses to feed
on the rich by taking his fair share! What we call justice
he calls stealing! What more evidence do you need?
Heretic! Heretic! Off with his head!"

The envy of Wonderland is never very far away,
it is reflected in the looking glass… if you dare.
